I'll call this the 'getting Bela to eat project'. (this 'project' really started 18 months ago, when Bela was born) Who knows how long it will take from here or what other bumps we will encounter along the way but we're going to try! Bela has had two open heart surgeries, was NG tube fed for 12 long months, had severe GERD (reflux) causing her to throw up several times a day, aspirated food into her lungs, and missed out on crucial development time while she was in the hospital and not eating. Hence, she has eating issues. She had a mickey button placed 5 days after her first birthday and has made leaps and bounds of progress since, but we still have a ways to go.. Up until recently, she did not know that eating food in her mouth was what made the hunger feeling go away, because she had always just got the food placed in her tummy for her! After 6 months of trying to connect hunger, eating, and feeling satisfied, she is ready to be pushed a little.
This is mostly for me to keep track, but who knows... maybe it'll help someone else along their eating journey too.
